Charlie Lost Once, Again
Jan 18th, 2009 by mingyi
In the just-finished Chess tournament, Charlie once again moved up a division - this time from Novice II (sub-600 ratings) to Reserve (sub-800 ratings). And once again, he lost a game in the 4-game tournament. In the end, he once again tied for 2nd highest score at 3.0, and after tiebreakers he ranked 4th in the 17-player division. It’s so funny so far - since Charlie started Chess lessons, he took part in 3 tournaments in 3 divisions. No matter where he played, he always lost one game, and he usually went on to play better than the person that beat him in the next tournament (in 2nd tournament, he beat the kid that beat him in the first tournament; in 3rd tournament, the kid that beat him in 2nd tournament won only 2 games vs. Charlie’s 3). The kid that beat Charlie also always got 1st place (twice) or 2nd place (once). So, let’s hope next tournament where Charlie would move up one division again to Open division (sub-1000 ratings), that he finally does not lose. Who knows, maybe he’d break this one-loss curse by losing two! ![]()
